Painted earthenware image of Hotei, one of the Seven Gods, Japanese. Considered to be the God of Fortune, Guardian of Children and regarded most times as the Laughing Buddha because of his benevolent nature and protruding stomach. The losses in paint is attributed to wear and tear of age. Taisho-Showa period, 1920-1940. Measures 13" H.
