This antique clay figure is Peruvian, from the Chancay culture. These figures have often been found in tombs and mummy bundles. They are called cuchimilcos. They may be male or female. This one is female. Perforations along the top of the headdress are seen frequently. This cuchimilco has two perforations on the headdress. The paint is in excellent condition; there is some minor corrosion along the left side. Precise age is unknown. These are generally dated as between 900 BCE and 1400 AD. It measures 11 " high and 7" at the widest point in the arm span.
