Antique Japanese Horse Cover, "Uma-No-Haragake", Indigo, Meiji Period

Used to protect horses from mosquito and insect bites as well as dirt and mud. Eventually, it was used for festivals and rituals. Bold tsutsugaki, handpainted paste resist stripes on cotton; red kanji that reads "rice" on blue background. Very good condition.

Meiji period, 19th c. 75" long x 13" wide.
