Handmade wool shoulder poncho from the Tarabuco area. Woven in the indigenous tradition of using several complex three-color patterning techniques to create designs on one side that are repeated in reversed colors on the other side but without color mixing so that the piece is double-sided. The motifs of horses, fanciful animals and variety of geometric designs date back to the pre-Hispanic past as well as some Spanish influence. In perfect condition. Bolivian, late 19th, early 20th century. Measures 38" x 35".
