JL07 Antique Japanese Tansu, two piece

Elaborate handhewn iron hardware with intricate design of symbols such as the Gods Daikoku and Ibisu, cranes and phoenixes, flora denoting seasons, and good luck symbols. Bottom piece has small safe door with two inside drawers and two small drawers above. This kind of tansu was normally constructed to be used in ships, thus the heavy metal. Excellent condition. Sado Island, Japan, Late Meiji, early 20th century. Measures 46 ½" wide x 16 ¾" deep x 46" high (23" high each piece). Contact us for shipping information.
