JPJJ14002 Antique Japanese Hand Warmer

Ceramic from the Oribe kiln, in the shape of a Shi Shi lion dog, so magnificent and very rare. Hand warmers were an integral part of a Japanese household in the days before electricity and come in all forms, sizes and materials. This particular one most possibly belonged to a well to do merchant or a Samurai family. Created by artist Nonomura Nissei Kokuho. Edo period, measures 12" x 11", weighs 18 pounds.
