Shinto Shide, Japanese, bronze/lacquer, Meiji period

Shide is a zigzag-shaped  streamer(usually paper), often seen attached to shimenawa or tamagushi, and used in Shinto rituals. A popular ritual is using a haraegushi, or "lightning wand", named for the zig-zag shide paper that adorns the wand.

This very unusual and large shide is made of bronze instead of paper.  Some losses in the lacquer in the wood base due to age and usage but otherwise in very good shape.
