Japanese Carpenter's Plumb Line, Sumitsubo, Late Meiji Period

Antique Japanese carpenter's plumb line, Sumitsubo, made from keyaki wood (Japanese zelkova). The ink and string have long disappeared, still the mechanism works smoothly. Cleaned just enough to bring out the keyaki wood grain and patina.
Late Meiji, c. 1910-20, keyaki wood, measures 8" long x 3" wide.
